I paint oils on aluminum composite panels, used for outdoor sign painting, which I order from a plastics supplier in VirginiaThe panel is a tiny bit shiny so I buff it lightly with some nylon scouring pad and then prime it with two coats of bonding primer.
To fasten the frame to the back of the panel, I use a steel epoxy rated for aluminum called J B WeldIll get to that in a minuteIn order for the epoxy to bond as permanently as possible, both the back of the panel and the side of the frame that butts up to it need to be sanded well with a rough grit ( grit works great) sand paper.

When preparing aluminum for paint, its important to use a self etching primerIts special formulation contains chemicals that micro etch the surface of the aluminum for the best bond possible.
